[mod.protocols.tcp-ip] seeking source for Ether packet types and vendor address codes

dunigan@ORNL-MSR.ARPA (Tom Dunigan 576-2522) (01/22/87)

Where might one find a list of Ethernet packet types (e.g., 600 XNS,
600x DECnet, 800 tcp/ip . ...)?
Also, is there a list of vendor-to-Ethernet address assignments?
  thanks

The first list (Ethernet type codes) is a public list and is available
from the administrator of those codes. The administrator used to be
Robert Prentiss, and the organization used to be (back in late '82)
	Network Systems Administration Office
	Office Systems Division
	Xerox
	3450 Hillview Avenue
	Palo Alto, CA 94304
I don't know if Printiss is still there, or if Xerox still handles that.

The vendor-Ethernet list also used to be administered by the same
person/organization. I don't know if that list is public and/or if the
administration has changed.

This information is considered proprietary by the IEEE. The best I
know of is to look at RFC "Assigned Numbers", which has a lot of them.
