Effective 0700 EST on March 12, 1987 a subset of UMDNET hosts will change their addresses. All of the hosts on subnet 0 (those hosts whose addresses are of the form 128.8.0.x) will change to subnet 10. For example, UMD5.UMD.EDU currently has the internet address 128.8.0.5. It's address will change to 128.8.10.5. An updated HOSTS.TXT will be available from the NIC on that day. Please note that the current domain name servers (TRANTOR.UMD.EDU 128.8.0.14 and NEOTRANTOR.UMU 128.8.0.9) will migrate to TRANTOR.UMD.EDU at 128.8.10.14, TERP.UMD.EDU 128.8.10.90, UMD5.UMD.EDU 128.8.10.5, and SNOOPY.UMD.EDU 128.8.10.18. People who query the UDP TIME and UDP NTP servers on UMD1.UMD.EDU 128.8.0.1 should query UMD1.UMD.EDU 128.8.10.1 after the conversion. Please note that we actively discourage people from using TCP/TIME. In summary: Old host addr New host addr ------------- ------------- 128.8.0.x ==> 128.8.10.x 128.8.y.z ==> 128.8.y.z (no change where y != 0) Old Name servers New name servers --------------- --------------- 128.8.0.14 (trantor.umd.edu) 128.8.10.14 (trantor.umd.edu) 128.8.0.9 (neotrantor.umd.edu) 128.8.10.90 (terp.umd.edu) 128.8.10.5 (umd5.umd.edu) 128.8.10.18 (snoopy.umd.edu) Old time server New time server --------------- ---------------- 128.8.0.1 (umd1.umd.edu) 128.8.10.1 (umd.umd.edu) If you have any questions, please feel free to send me mail.
