New Oxford English Dictionary Research Project Manager The University of Waterloo's Department of Computer Science is seeking a manager for the New Oxford English Dictionary Project. The research project manager will plan, develop and supervise the project's technical activities, which will be executed by a seven-member technical team. Primary responsibility will be to direct the development of the database management system to sup- port the electronic version of the Oxford English Dictionary, producing system specifications, identifying critical paths in meeting the project's objectives and time schedule, and assuring system coherence and performance. Applicants must have demonstrated management ability as well as technical competence. To this end, qualified applicants should possess a graduate degree in Computer Science and must have several years' experience in developing systems and applications in the fields of data structures, databases, text management and/or information retrieval. This includes facility in design- ing and developing software in the environment of UNIX 4.2 BSD and C. Proven ability to schedule and supervise programming staff and activities to meet project deadlines is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical for success- ful interaction with technical personnel, academics and external contacts.
