PRELIMINARY MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT The Internationalisation committee of /usr/group/uk (and by association, the EUUG) will be meeting in London late in February. There are now enough members signed up and expressing a wish to actively participate that a committee will be formed to supervise the running of the group. The aims and objectives were clearly expressed by Brian Boyle in his minutes of the /usr/group meeting held in Washington, 9 September '85. The European committee should be organised along the same lines, in my opinion. Here is what he said: "The goal ... will be realised even if a single, complete, consistent and universally accepted standard is not produced from (the committee's) efforts. ..... a forum for communication, conflict resolution and compromise seems more achievable. Short and long range goals: Delineation of major specific issues, priority and status. Solicitation of direct participation by international users' groups A clearing house of standards, usage and specific implementations Maintenance of a resource list of members, vendors and user groups Indexing and abstracting of these documents and noting potential conflicts Publication and updating of an evolving/interim standards document Amongst the posts that will need to be determined during the meeting are those of Chair Secretary Treasurer Publications (newsletter editor) The remaining agenda is not yet fixed, but will include briefings on progress by AT&T, the X/OPEN group and others currently spending money and effort on this task. Anyone who has something to say which they think may may be of interest or would aid the work in hand is very welcome to speak at the meeting.
