[net.internat] European Meeting

mikeb@inset.UUCP (Mike Banahan) (03/09/86)

			MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

Be it known that in conjunction with the IEEE P1003 standards committee
meeting, being held in Florence week ending 18th of April, and the EUUG
conference held in the same place the following week, a meeting of the
Internationalisation committee will also occur. This is scheduled to
be held at the same place as the EUUG conference, on Monday 21st April.

The goal for this meeting is for a joint set of high level objectives
to be agreed between the US user group and the combined EUUG /usr/group/uk
committees.

A major agenda item will be the discussion of the `White Paper' produced
by the /usr/group committee, which contains the following list of topics
and areas of concern:

	Announcement Mechanisms
	Concurrent Code Sets
	Size of Codes
	Collating Sequences
	Role of ASCII
	Redefinition of ASCII Bytes
	Character Classification
Addressing of Variable Length Byte Streams
	Compiler Technology
	Regular Expressions
	Directionality (e.g. Hebrew / English)
	Escape Sequences
	Existing Standards
	Performance
Packaging of Different Language Versions of Unix

I currently have a copy of a draft of the White Paper which will be distributed
to signed up members of the European Working Party, for consideration in
advance of the meeting.

Anyone who has not already arranged for hotel accomodation in Florence may
be able to resolve something by calling the European UNIX System User Group
Headquarters:
