I'm currently using 20-40(20-50?) petroleum base oil in my '77 Chevette, 4cyl, 1.6 Liter engine. (Don't ask why. It's a long story.) I would like to switch over to a synthetic base oil, probably 5-50 or something like that. Is it safe to do this gradually as the car needs oil, or should I drain the engine, and put the synthetic in all at once? Also, any recommendations on a good synthetic to use? I frequently make an 80 mi trip (one way) on interstate routes at high speeds. If I were to make a gradual change, it would take a very long time, as the car doesn't seem to use up the oil thats in it already. The level hasn't changed since I had the head replaced a month or so ago. ============================================================================== Steve Wall @ Rochester Institute of Technology USnail: 6675 Crosby Rd, Lockport, NY 14094, USA Usenet: ..!rochester!ritcv!spw2562 (Fishhook) Unix 4.2 BSD BITNET: SPW2562@RITVAXC (Snoopy) VAX/VMS 4.2 Voice: Yell "Hey Steve!"
