I have a '79 Mazda RX-7 which is about due for its third set of tires. Any recommendations? I'm currently using Michelin XZX's which I'm none too fond of - they tend to accentuate the car's tail-happiness. Pointers to comparison tests of tires (especially where the test car is an RX-7) would be especially appreciated. Andrew W. Rogers

I have had great results with two sets of RIKEN 195/70 HR 13 tires on our '79. The original Bridgestones only lasted 33K miles. The first set of RIKENs lasted 44K, and we have 40K on the second set. The 195s fit on the standard Aluminum wheels and fit under the wheel well with a set of chains. Not to mention the enhanced handling of the wider tire. < NO! We do not want to discuss that topic!>

Rogers About a year and a half ago, Car and Driver (or maybe Road and Track ) ran an article comparing the performance of a number of different tires. They tested tires using a Honda Prelude and a Mazda RX-7 and commented on how certain tires affected the handling characteristics of each car. I can't remember the exact issue but I think the cover had a picture of a 2 seater convertible with the caption "Is this $8500 Ford in your future?". Rob Akers
