Can the VW watercooled engines used in the GTI and Scirocco (especially the upcoming 16-valve versions) be mounted longtitudinally and fitted with a conventional gearbox for front-engine/rear-wheel drive? Is there anything inherently different in the block to prevent this, or would it be possible if the appopriate transmission existed? Gibt's vielleicht so was jenseits des grossen Ponds?

In fact, the Passat/Santana (Dasher/Quantum) uses it longitudionally (as does Audi 80/4000). The Audi 5-cylinder also has the same mount as the VW 4-cylinder. \tom haapanen watmath!watdcsu!haapanen I'm all lost in the Supermarket I can no longer shop happily I came in here for that special offer Guaranteed personality (c) The Clash, 1979
