[net.auto.tech] synthetic gear oil

mls@husky.uucp (Mark Stevans) (12/07/85)

I am interested in obtaining synthetic gear oil for my car. Someone
mentioned that a company named "Amsoil" makes it. Could anyone give me
their address, or just the city they're located in, or anything that could
lead me to a source for their product?

My 1984 Toyota Supra is reluctant to shift when I start it up in the morning
at 20 degrees Farenheit. I am hoping this would alleviate the problem.

With regard to shifting at low temperatures and gear oil:

There was a garage here in N.C. years ago that carried drums of 80W-90
stuff made by a company in Houston called - LUBRICATION ENGINEERS. It
was impressive stuff and is used I believe by folks that run big earth
moving equipment which is tough to shift when cold and doesn't warm up
real quick. Never saw it in quarts, just ~40 gallon drums. They did
make a nice 30 weight motor oil that you could get in quarts. Anyone out
there know a place to buy these products?

Older Saabs use 80 or 90 weight oil in their transmissions. Try
a Saab dealer.
