[net.auto.tech] Door Locks get stuck below -5C

panos@utcsri.UUCP (Panos Economopoulos) (12/30/85)

<--------------------------------------------------------------------->

The following problem appears when temperatures fall below -5 C.

The rear door locks don't lock. Last winter the left rear door
would lock/unlock only from inside (outside button stuck).
Now, the right rear door won't even close. THat is, you start the
trip from your undergroung parking, drive to your destination,
everybody gets out and, the door won't close for as long as the
car is parked outside. Yesterday, we had to use wire
to keep it shut while getting back.
Mind you, the same problem occasionally appears to the trunk lock.

So,
what can I do to the locks? (Front locks, no problem).
Is there anything I can do without dismantling them?
If I do have to take them out, how should I treat them? What with?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
