I have a 1954 Hillman Husky Wagon that I bought as a "project" car to improve my "weekend mechanic" skills. I cannot start the car and it has not run for approximately 5 years. It turns over fine and the carburator is getting gas (I think). However, I do not get any spark from holding the coil wire (distributer end) on the block. I know the coil is good because it works in my other Hillman (which runs fine) What else should I check? Could the coil be different enough that it might work in one car and not the other (there is 7 years separating the model year)? Any suggestions would be appreciated! JR

Lift the cap and watch the points when you crank it over. If the points are opening and closing, make sure you have voltage present at the points when they are open. If you don't have voltage (12V, 6V, whatever the battery is), disconnect the condensor. It may be shorted. If voltage appears when the capacitor is disconnected replace it. If you still don't have voltage, problem would be in the wiring. Run a "hot" wire (temporarily, of course -- you want to know if it'll run) from the battery to the points side of the coil. You should now be ready to fire it up! -- --==---==---==-- "beware the fruminous Bandersnatch" ARPA: don@umd5.UMD.EDU BITNET: don%umd5@umd2 UUCP: ..!{ seismo!umcp-cs, ihnp4!rlgvax }!cvl!umd5!don (NOTE: Please mail to umcp-cs!cvl!umd5!don NOT umd5!cvl!umcp-cs!don) umcp-cs ::= mimsy.UMD.EDU | maryland.ARPA | umcp-cs.UUCP
