I have an '86 Honda Civic. When accelerating after the car has sat all night in the cold it jerks. This lasts for about 1 to 2 minutes. I talked to a friend with an '81 Honda Accord, and he has the same problem. He thinks it is a Honda feature. I don't want to take it in to the dealer just yet because I always seem to be more frustrated after they look at something then before. Maybe if I at least have an idea of what's wrong, I can point them in the right direction. Thanks, Adnan Yaqub @ Allen-Bradley Co. decvax!abic!acy

I purchased a 1986 Honda Civic Si two weeks ago and have had neither the jerking problem or the exhaust smell problem you have reported. So far, everything works perfectly. (cross my fingers) In any case, it would not be a bad idea to let your car warm up for a few seconds before moving it and being gentle the first few minutes. If your Honda is NOT fuel injected, it probably uses the CVCC principle, which may account for your poor driveability when cold. I don't know about the smell problem. -- If you are seen fixing something, you will be asked to fix it every time it breaks from then on.
