I have a 1978 265GL 6-cyl. I notice that, especially when it is cold, if I turn the wheel quickly it conks a bit, never stalls but definite power loss and hesitation. I mentioned it to my mechanic last time I had the car in (for something else) and he looked concerned, thought maybe the work they were doing that day would help (new fuel injectors) and at any rate they'd have a look at it. Didn't really help this (tho what they *did* do helped tremendously in general.) Maybe someone could give me some words to suggest next time I'm in there, I'm sure they would check it all out carefully but it's nice to be able to chat and I am not sure what to even suggest. (I guess part of my problem is I pretty much understand and have worked on good ole american 60s-early 70s cars, and then everything went blank, I'm not accustomed to walking into a mechanic and saying "dunt woik, fix pleeze".) Maybe I shoulda bought a 64 chevy bel-air, but I do like the volvo... Also, as an afterthought, gas mileage seems pretty lousy (I dunno, around 14mpg all city driving, short hops.) Is that lousy? Could it be related? My intuitions say timing, carburation but who knows what's under that hood, probably not a carb...could be a choke cutting out too soon I guess, do they have chokes? must have a moral equivalent! lord I'm lost...where did the little screws you could tweak with a penknife or a dime go! -Barry Shein, Boston University
