[net.games.chess] FM - What is it?

zarifes@bnrmtv.UUCP (Kenneth Zarifes) (12/11/85)

Hi,

I've recently noticed people in Chess Life being referred to FM.
What does that mean? Future Master??? Fantastic Master???
Fanatic?? etc.

FM is "FIDE Master", a master recognized not only by her/his country,
but also by the international chess federation FIDE. She/he has not
yet reached the norm of international master (IM).
