According to the NYTimes 1/30 in an item datelined Lucerne 1/29, FIDE, Kasparov, Karpov and the Soviet Chess Federation have agreed on a rematch which is to start some time between July 28 and August 4. London has bid $900K, Leningrad has bid $500K. Florencio Campomanes (FIDE President) prefers London, but no decision has yet been made. The match was originally scheduled to start in February, but Kasparov claimed that this did not give him enough rest after the 72 games that he and Karpov have played in the past year and a half.
