[net.micro.amiga] Amiga development tools

wm@tekchips.UUCP (Wm Leler) (09/01/85)

I have not actually used any Amiga development tools,
but the documentation I have says that the C software
development tools run either -
	On the Amiga
	On a Sun
	On an IBM PC.
They mention that the Sun C compiler is written by GreenHills.
I don't know about the Amiga or IBM versions.
My impression is that the three versions are equivalent in power.
Of course, if you have a Sun... (but an IBM PC?)
They also give instructions on how to do cross development and
download files from other hosts.

Isn't anyone from Amiga on this group?

There was a comprehensive article on the Amiga in the August issue
of the UK mgazine Personal Computer World. Most of the software for
the Amiga was custom written for Commodore by a British Company
called Metacomo. The DOS is based on an operating system developed
and extensively tested in the Cambridge Ring network system. This OS
was called TRIPOS (after the Cambridge University 3 part degree).

I believe they also wrote the Basic and the assembler.

My local store says they are expecting 10 on the 15th of September
- I am 9th in line !
