Does anyone know what 68k machines GNU (Richard Stallman's public domain UN*X) runs on and/or how much of a problem it would be to install it on an Amiga? It seems to me that a machine designed for multi-tasking and lots of memory, like the Amiga, should be able to support it. It would help both Commodore and the GNU project if the Amiga could run GNU. From: dab@MIT-BORAX.MIT.EDU (David A. Bridgham) Last I heard, RMS had decided that GNU would be made to run on machines which didn't have memory management as well as those which did. So the Amiga should be fine. At the moment, GNU isn't running on anything, so the option of porting it to the Amiga doesn't exist yet. David Bridgham

- The question about if GNU was being set up to run on the Amiga brought up a couple of questions of my own. Does GNU UNIX require a MMU? Does GNU UNIX require virtual memory with page fault handling? Exactly what, if any, kind if MMU does the Amiga have? Will it support virtual memory and page faults? I am particulary interested in the answer to the last question. Any of the developers out there who already have a system, do you know the answer? Tom Granvold ucbvax!allegra!oliveb!tymix!granvold
