*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR favorite Amiga demo *** I want to second the idea that Commodore seems very willing to distribute development systems. The paperwork that they send you at first looks like you have to sign your life away, but it really isn't that bad. I got my system 2 weeks after I sent the paperwork in. I don't know about the other developers, but I got both the native and IBM cross development software, in addition to the kickstart, workbench, extras (ABasiC and Tutor, with the tutor missing). I also got an Electronic Arts demo disk. Has anyone else gotten more? A ton of documentation also came with it. The documentation is needed to figure out the yucky command language. I hope some developer can write a better one, else I might. (Using a * to denote the screen, not a file wildcard? grrr) Can anyone tell me, does the Electronic Arts Demo put out any sound? I have a pair of cheap Unitech amplified speakers (for walkman type devices) hooked up and except for a muffled beep at boot time, I get no sound out of my machine. The sound demos in the basic manual also seem to produce no sound. Any suggestions appreciated. I just read in MISWeek (Oct 2, p5) that Commodore has a $40M ad blitz set over the next 3 months. "Airing during the first two weeks will be on prime time tv shows. After that, in October, airing will be on news and sports shows, as well as prime time entertainment.....Some 662 stores are signed up to carry the Amiga with a target of 1000 by year's end.....No volume discounts will be given.......The IBM emulator is a security blanket, says president Thomas Rattigan." Personally I think both the ST line and the Amiga offer the public a personal computing alternative. If I was unable to get the Amiga I would definitely get an ST, but I think the Amiga with its current multi-tasking os and ibm emulation suits my needs better.
