I've been thinking of getting an AMIGA, but I'm put off by what looks like a severe bug. I've seen it in two machines now, with any number of different programs. The problem occurs when you run out of memory. The operating system just stops, the software hangs, and you have to reboot with a control-amiga-amiga. This is, of course, totally unnaceptable. Personally I think the best response to this would be to pop up a dialogue box saying something on the order of "Not enough memory: [cancel] [abort]", allowing you to either cancel the action or blow away the program, but there are a number of other possibilities. This happens with ABasiC, as well as the demos, so it's not just a matter of the demos having bugs in them. It looks to me like it's taking a rather simple minded view of memory management. It doesn't matter whether you're running a program, expanding a window, or even just moving one. Also: how do you back gracefully out of the H.A.M. demo? Can you?
