$400 for the developer's kit. Sounds like a reasonable deal to me. I'll take one. the never-present whisper spirit "skippin' o'er th' timelines ag'in"

The implicit question here has not yet been answered. Are there indeed no more developer's packages available from Amiga at $1900? Or was this poor soul just given a rejection notice? An official word on this would be nice. Some of you will recognize my name from previous postings. I have been watching carefully, practically from day 1, the tecnical aspects of the Amiga, and have been quite impressed with the machine. I have even created a business plan to get a group of developers creating CAE software on the machine. After saving for a while, I got the money to- gether to buy a system, and myself and at least two others were going to try to get development systems and begin work. I even went so far as to defend Amiga's stance on developers. WELL NO MORE! I originally sent a letter to Amiga in the old California address, and got no response. Then I saw the east coast address for Amiga on the net, and sent a letter there. I just recieved this response (after a 4 1/2 week wait). "Thank you for your interest in Commodore/Amiga. The participation in our developers program has been a little overwhelming. Please excuse the generalized response, but this message has become necessary to offer everyone prompt attention. As product becomes available we are changing our progam and are suggesting that, if you have not already, purchase you Amiga system from one of our authorized dealers. We will be happy to continue our support by providing you with our developers software and documentation kit if you desire. The developers kit contains all of the recommended documentation, system software, C compiler, 68000 Macro Assembler and developers tools that exist today. The price for the developers kit is $400.00. Please make you check payable to Commodore Business machines, Inc. and remit payment directly to Mr. Dave Street for processing. The individual parts of the devel, opers kit may also be purchased at an Amiga dealer and at retail bookstores. To further our support, we will soon offer a 24-hour/day telecommunications system to help answer any questions that you may have. You will be notified by mail when this service is avail- able. Again, thank you for your support. Best regards, Paul Goheen Software Director" Well, I am very dissatisfied with this response. First I heard the kit would be $300, now they want $400. First we can get a system with external drive, 512k, and color monitor with the kit for a total of $1900, now they want us to go to a store and pay $2785 for the same thing. I had managed to get together $1900, now they want me to come up with another $885! With this price and attitude, I'm not going to be getting one for a while, if at all. I may even start reading net.micro.atari. Sorry, guys, but this is a bit much for me. Any comments out there, from Lavitsky, Amiga, or anyone else? '`'` Ken `'`'

The documentation and softawre kit was $ 250. Yes, there are indeed developer's packages available. I guess there are also rejection notices. Marco Papa USC - Computer Science Dept. An official word on this would be >nice. > Ken Whaley > Computer Services, UNIX Project > Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory I assume it was NOT a rejection notice, since they didn't even send me any information or ask for any sort of company information. I would have been happy to provide a company plan or prospectus, but they didn't even ASK! Also- to the guy who complained that if you can't afford $3000 for a dev- elopment system, you can't afford what it takes to produce software: It does not require MONEY do develop good software. It requires time, talent, a good idea, and as lot of sweat. Most of the software startups in the world did not come from large amounts of venture capital, they came from individuals with a good idea and the will to see it work. '`'`'` Ken '`'`'`
