[net.micro.amiga] flashing with SCREEN command

claudio@ethz.UUCP (Claudio Nieder) (12/06/85)

Everytime you change the screen mode with SCREEN x,y,z the Amiga first
displays the workbench screen before setting up the desired mode.

This is especially annoying when using the SCREEN command in a program
to be sure, that the correct mode is used. Every time you restart the
program, the Amiga flashes through the Workbench window, even if there
is no change.

Does anybody know if you can inhibit this 'going through Workbench' or
if it's possible to test from BASIC which is the actual mode, so that
the program can decide whether it's necessary to change the mode or not.

Many thanks
