......... I've heard rumors that the Framegrabber addition can only handle 3 bits of grayscale, and may not work at full 640x400. If this is true, it really seems ridiculous. One of the main reasons I bought an Amiga is the ability to do imaging at 16 shades of gray at 640x400 (the absolute bare minimum as far as I am concerned). Does anyone out there really think that anything less than that is acceptable? What do we have the 640x400x4 mode for if we can't use it for anything? What resolution do you think the 'mandrill' was digitized at? If this ugly rumor can be dispelled by someone at Amiga, please do, I'm not looking forward to having to build my own digitizer, and it would really screw up my plans for the software package for the Amiga I am now working on. One of the main reasons I bought an Amiga is the ability I have been in contact with the company making the frame grabber for the Amiga A**2 ( 'A' squared systems in Okland Calif.) Thier developers boards can be used in all of the Amiga's graphics modes. They are not sure about the final board that will be released. They are still doing the board layout, and are hoping that everything will fit. If not, they will cut back. But I think they will cut down on the screen res, not the pixel depth (number of colors). I am getting a developers board and will post news when I get it and/or get more info. Rich Miner

I worked in the Image Processing Institute where the 'mandrill' was
originally digitized. (It is part of their standard color image data
base.) And while it has been dissemenated to many people in many forms
it was originally digitized as a 512 X 512 image with 8 bits/color (
24 bits/pixel)
