Hi everyone....if anyone is interested in Emacs for the Amiga I have a working copy....I ported the MicroEmacs that comes with the IBM PC version of Mark Williams "Let's C". At this point it is a straight no-frills port. It is a resonable small version of emacs, it has multiple windows, one keyboard macro, and all the "basics". Current drawbacks include: no [queary] replace, somewhat slow screen refresh, not very customizable without changing the code....BUT IT BEATS THE HELL OUT OF ED ! I will be posting the sources to CompuServe's Amiga Forum shortly but I hesitate to send it here as it is 100k+ of source. If you want a copy of this you can send me a disk, and return postage and whatever you think the copying is worth. My address is: George Jones 8080 Flint Rd. At risk of sounding over-fastidious, do you have permission to port and distribute this? Is it public domain? -- scott preece gould/csd - urbana uucp: ihnp4!uiucdcs!ccvaxa!preece arpa: preece@gswd-vms

That was my criteria for obtaining it. I wanted a small emacs that I could port and distribute... While I'm on (or near) the subject...I recieved some mail from David Conroy, the original author of the editor. He told me that the version I ported was "ancient" and that he has improved some things. I hope to get a copy of his most recient version and make it available in an Amiga version (if it offers substantial improvement). Cheers, George M. Some peoples implementation of EMACS arent. Thanks for posting those sources! I don't have an Amiga; I use an IBM-PC/AT compatible (Zenith 200). It took me almost no time at all to port it back. People are complaining about net.sources.mac because is only has binaries in it; sources are useful to more than just those who have the machine you use the code on. I am SO glad to see that the Amiga can run portable programs! Makes it look like a real computer, somehow. All the Macintosh programs that are so non-portable that there is no benefit to posting sources remind me somehow of the kind of code that goes into rom for imbedded computers in household appliances.
