Ok all you 520st enthusiasts, its time to stop dreaming. The atari st is an incredible low end home computer. But it is NOT an Amiga. Sure, with some very difficult assembly language code (counting cycles! egad!) - you can copy the bouncing ball, but if anyone seriously thinks a ST can match up to the Amiga, they are crazy. I don't own either machine, and probably never will, however I have researched both. Both have merits of their own, but they are two completely different machines. The Amiga is a better computer, flat out, and it also costs twice as much. Which is better for the money? I don't know, but I am tired of hearing atari salesmen, and atari owners, blabbing that the ST is "the same thing as an Amiga". That quote came directly from an atari salesman. I am not about to list features, but if this letter makes you red, grab the specs for both machines and see for yourself. No comparison.

Oh, come off it!! Your message before this totally destroys your credibility. You sell Amigas - therefore you are biased in its favor. The ST is a great machine for the price; the Amiga is a great machine, but I can't afford 1795 to get one. Could you people please post your f*****g comparisons to net.bullshit? I, for one, am really tired of this crap! I own an Amiga and am not really interested in whether or not you think I made the right decision. I've got better things to do than listen to you be insecure about which computer you bought. Lee

Seriously, I own an ST (not a "520st") and am probably going to buy an amiga (Amiga :-) sometime in the future. I, for one, do not believe that the two computers are "the same thing". However, I do believe that if people can stop arguing about which machine is better, then we might be able to help both machines find strong positions in the (presently boring) PC marketplace. I hate to think that it is really me that is involved in a ST vs Amiga war but I have to take exception to this article. There are a lot of very cute and superior things about the Amiga. There are also undeniably superior features that the ST can boast. I am incredulous that the Usenet has spawned so many articles devoid of any reasoning and filled with such misguided emotion. If I can get a computer that has a 68000, 640 x 400 non-interlaced graphics, and that runs code faster than than any other personal computer (including the amiga -see the drystones) And I can get it for $600 (yes it has been discounted that low) I feel that that is a far superior computer *FOR ME*. I however do not really need the color, sound capabilities, bus expansion, animation, and hope to use OS-9.
