Hi - I am a novice to this system.. My first attempt to post ever !! I just have a couple of questions and suggestions... The Amiga is a fantastic machine.. but it APPEARS slow to the user when opening either a diskette volume or drawer structure because it is loading the icons and the iconic information from disk. If there was a low priority read specified that would operate in the background to load this information for any structures that could be opened directly by the user this information could be cached in memory and used directly when the double-click occurs. Only the next level in the hierarchy need be cached at any time. This would make the APPEARANCE of the performance much better from the end user perspective w/o much overhead. Just a suggestion... I have been reading the information in the net.micro.amiga usergroup and the net.sources information also. Is there actually a net.sources.amiga group ?? If there is, the information is not comming to the system I am tied into -- how do I subscribe to it ? A posting came to me via a uniformed government employee about the Quantum connection.. I filled in the blanks but so far there has been no response.. is this service still being setup or is the check somewhere in the mail ?? Does one need to buy the actual development kit from CBM to be an "official" developer.. between my request and the acceptance letter I already got all the stuff that I need (except more expansion RAM. :-). I would like to tap into the current San Jose BBS (if it is still up) but have no information on it.. Who and where do I contact Amiga to preview my software products, just in case they want to suck them under their corporate wing ? Lastly, can we cut out all the ST vs. Amiga stuff ! If the developers stop fighting out this battle and create software that takes advantage of all the great Amiga capabilities that are missing on the Atari there will be no need to keep duking this out. This information exchange is great !! - Jim Becker ATUD - (All the Usual Disclaimers)
