From: Louis A. Mamakos <louie@trantor.UMD.EDU> I just received my V1.1 Kickstart, Workbench, and an Extras disk with the new Microsoft BASIC. Also included was a manual for BASIC, and errata for the BASIC doc and the existing intro to amiga stuff. There is also an appendix that describes the use of the Icon Editor, Note Pad and Clock. Being a developer, I didn't ever receive the pretty binder or any of the regular documentation (inverse situation from most folks on net), so I don't know how the errate fits in. The new Microsoft BASIC is a huge improvement over the original ABasiC. Of course, I never got an ABasiC manual, but after fooling with ABasiC I didn't want one either. Microsoft BASIC appears very similar to the BASIC on the Mac, but also allows access to just about all of the ROM kernel stuff. You can make menus, BOBs, translator, narrator, animation primitives, etc. Try it, you'll like it. Included are a pile of example programs to show you what it can do. Good stuff. I'm anxiously awaiting the developer's documentation for V1.1. The new ROM Kernel manual is *really* needed. Hopefully, some of the bugs in the C compiler have been fixed. We can all hope for a new linker that runs faster and is less memory intensive; but I doubt it. Louis A.
