I have successfully ported HACK 1.0.1 to the Amiga and would be happy to share it with anyone who is interested. Due to the size of the source, I am hesitant to post it here but would be more than happy to send it to anyone interested. I have converted it to take advantage of the features the Amiga has to offer including: Hack and the 6 possible characters appear as ICONS that can be run by clicking on them. Saved games appear as icons in a saved games 'treasure chest' Numeric keypad and cursor keys for movement commands. Menus to display and allow selection of commands (although prompting for options and objects still works the way it always has) Mouse pointer for Christening yoour dog annd Ring of teleport control. There are currently two bugs: Escape to AmigaDos sometimes blows up upon return to Hack. Sometimes it doesn't run, but the memory required to load it is gone. The source alone fills an entire disk and the game takes most of a second disk (executable is 218K - it requires a 512K machine) but can be played on a single drive machine. As it stands, it is almost too large to link on a 512K machine. Some enhancements include update to 1.0.2 If anyone can locate the source for the update - Even printed form is acceptable since I don't have the utilities to apply the zaps; Speech for some of the messages; and of course graphics for the dungeon. I will ship a (DYSAN) diskette of the game (no source yet until I have all the bugs out) to anyone for $6.00 - covers diskette cost, copying, and mailer/postage of the latest version I have whenever I get a request. Since it is public domain, you may (and should) freely share it with anyone else. Any reasonable suggestions for enhancements are welcome. John A. Due to the number of people that have requested source for Amiga Hack, I will be posting it to the net under net.sources in about a week. For those of you on Arpanet, I will try to make arrangements to have it archived - Any volunteers? When I get the patches to 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 I will post the differeences file after I have successfully applied them. For those of you who do not have C compilers (or do not want to go to the tedious job of compiling) I am working on a way to port the binary. Since it is over 200K of object and another 50K in support I am looking for a way to compress it. We are looking at possibly a Huffman encription with only Ascii printable characters being generated. Again, any suggestions will be welcome. For anyone in Canada wanting a diskette, I am willing to send a FREE copy of both source and object to the first person who volunteers to act as a distribution site in Canada. This way we don't have to worry about the extra postage or monetary exchange problems. In the US, just send $6.00 (in any reasonable form). I provide mailer and diskette. (Extra contributions are always welcome). John Toebes 120-H Northington Place Cary, NC 27511 (919)-469-4210
