From: cthulhu@athena.MIT.EDU In response to Mark Weiser's letter, IBM compatibility is still around-- I've seen a demo version of the emulator running 1-2-3, PCDOS and several other IBM programs (strangely enough, it won't run IBM Basic, just GWBASIC since IBM Basic depends on the cassette basic in ROM. Supposedly the emulator will run Flight Simulator and all the top 25 IBM programs. I was a bit disappointed with the speed (or lack thereof) of text output, but it does work with both 3 1/2" disks and 5 1/4"s. What I want to see is Artwick's Amiga flight simulator! IBM stuff may be OK for the interim, but let's get some REAL software... As to Jay Miner worship, seems a bit silly to me. Apple certainly has an equal in Bill Atkinson-- their problem is Jobs' insistance on doing everything in software. Miner has done an excellent job on the Amiga, but he was unable to pull off all the things Quickdraw can do. Animation and sound, however... - Jim Reich cthulhu@athena.mit.edu

There is a new independant IBM PC emulator advertised in the latest issue of Amiga World from a company called SofTeam. It is called PC/ET and will sell for $69.95. I called SofTeam to find more about it. First, it is not available yet (seems about par for the course), expected date is third week of March. They claim it will run just about any piece of PC software. It supports color and monochrome modes and will even have an EGA emulator (although I am not clear if that is included in the initial offering). Drat! I forgot to ask how slow it is.
