From: cthulhu@athena.MIT.EDU I've been playing around with Maxicorp's Maxicomm (it's good for what it is, which isn't much... vanilla term w/xmodem & AmigaBinary), but there's one real annoyance I've found; it doesn't actually open the comm port. Thus, the only way I've been able to get it to work is by writing a program that opens the port, then letting AmigaBasic keep the ^!&@%#^@# thing open! I'm using a novation SmartCat Plus (hayes compatible) connected with a straight-thru cable... Anyone else have this problem? If there was some way to start an application for AmigaBasic, then my modem-opening redialer program could just start Maxicomm, but alas... Incidentally, if there's anyone else out there with MaxiComm, have you found a good UNIX terminal driver that it emulates? Closest I've come is ansi, but it's not so great... - Jim Reich (cthulhu@athena.mit.edu)

From: Rusty Haddock <haddock%ti-csl.csnet@CSNET-RELAY.ARPA> Jim, I don't know what's causing your problems with MaxiComm but I'm using a *REAL* :-) Hayes 1200 connected to my Amiba with absolutely no problems (except those 'cause by the imitation programmers at MaxiCorpse). Make sure that you've cut the lines in the serial connector that are carrying power and audio. There was an article about this a while back and I don't have my Amiga manuals handy. Though, do check the back of your _Introduction_the_Amiga_ manual which you got with your machine if you're familiar with RS-232. -Rusty-
