[net.micro.amiga] Joining the NAPLPS meeting this Sunday

?V@well.UUCP (?V) (02/22/86)

< ------ dinner time, munch munch!! -------- >

I have had an overwhelming response to the NAPLPS project meeting,
and my local mailer DAEMON has spitted back more than 50 percent of
my responses via UUCP, Because of this, I will post the information
on how to join the conference here. I feel it is appropriate because
of the non-commercial nature of the project.

Most poeple were inquiring as to how to access the WELL. There are
3 ways to do this.

1. By voice, call 415-332-4335, and ask for an account.
2. By modem:

    a) Local to Sausalito, dial (415) 332-6106
       cost = $2/hr $8/month

    b) Anywhere in California: Pac Tel Packet switching:
       dial: 440-1444, type: <period> <cr> <period> <cr> to
wake up the modem, then type: 4954611199.
until Calif PUC approves a rate, it is FREE, thus
access is same as Local or $2/hr.

    c) Anywhere in USA: Call 1-800-821-5340 and ask Uninet Customer
service if your area has a local access number. If so,
dial that local number, then type <period> <cr> <period>
then at the Uninet: prompt, type: well
cost is $6/hr or if you live in the boonies, $8/hr
       (hmmmm!! probably an 800 number)

Another note on Uninet: There are a restricted number of
Uninet lines into the WELL, so get on early.

    d) The Well is also accessable through PC Pursuit, a service
offered by GTE Telenet. Type SAN FRAN for the city name.

Once into the WELL, type:newuser and give yourself an account.
The NAPLPS conference will take place this Sunday at 6 pm (west)
and 9 pm (east), depending on the time zone.

The NAPLPS meeting shouldn't last more than a half hour or so, and
is intended to basically map out information sources on NAPLPS, and
bring together those interested in using NAPLPS on the Amiga.

Some of the issues we will be discussing are:

1. Should we implement a NAPLPS engine on the "Device driver" level?
2. Should we implement a set of routines in C and use them as a
NAPLPS library? and put them in the public domain?
3. How can we implement NAPLPS in such a way that it could be easy
to interface with IFF and other standards.
4. How do we make large computing centers aware of the benifits of
    graphics standards.
5. Other graphics standards. Which one is best?? Why NAPLPS,
or Why NOT use NAPLPS at all??

The meeting agenda:

-- Roll call: Usually on-going, as members check in.

-- Member introduction - Will actually depend on how many attempt to
check in. Will probably ask members to Email a short summary or
   resume.

-- Free discussions - The major portion of the meeting.

A transcript of the meeting will be recorded, and as mentioned
earlier, will be made available.

I hope this answers everyones questions. Again, for those inquiring
about the meeting, I'm sorry my responses didn't get to your site.
I still haven't had the time to "map out" and unravel the mystery
of all these net addresses, I seem to have a lot of trouble getting
to Rutgers University in New Jersey. Anyone have a good path to them??

   See you all this Sunday.
