From: cthulhu@athena.MIT.EDU I don't really want to dredge up this old debate from my Apple ][ days, but it seems to be pertinent... I've heard the standard line about manufacturers-not-checking-the-backs-of-single-sided-5-1/4"-disks-so-you- should-spend-more-money-to-buy-double-sided-disks, but I doubt that, as different single sided drives use different sides of the disk without trouble. Unfortunately, I don't think that works with 3 1/4" disks. I've been using single sided disks that worked fine on a Mac, but as they become more and more full, they seem to get more and more errors (almost as much as my Maxicomm disk, but that's another story of which you've doubtless heard too much...). Bottom line seems to be that we have to shell out the money for DS disks to get even a modicum of reliability... oh well, there go about 100 Mac disks........ - Jim
