[net.micro.amiga] I'll try again

lbg@gitpyr.UUCP (Lee B Grey) (03/24/86)

I asked a couple of questions that were never answered, so I'm going
to try again:

1. My external disk drive gets quite hot. I worry about the disks
inside. I am also concerned that the drive itself is faulty. The
difference between the internal and external drives is easily noticable.
Is this normal?

2. How does the Amiga distinguish between and mouse and a joystick?
Are they interchangeable? Is it true that any joystick that works
with the Commodore 64 will work with the Amiga?

Thanks.

By the way network, this is a very good algorithm. Because we're all
busy and noone is "assigned" to answering these messages we sometimes
just let the other fellow answer. This does not always work.

I guess I would go down to the local Amiga dealer and feel some of
his drives (please don't squeeze the Charmin :-). If you can't find
a couple drives that run as hot as yours "insist" that yours be repaired.
(From what I hear this really means "replaced").

It doesn't. The usage depends on what the software is expecting
(specifies).

No. Not at all.
I just posted an article about the differences.

I presume so. Did you know that Amiga started out making joysticks?
I believe the pinouts and operations match those of the Atari 2600
home game system also.

I'm using the joystick from my Atari 2600 (VCS), and it works fine.
I've seen them in surplus places (e.g. Halted Specialties in Sunnyvale)
for anything from $0.50 needing repair to $4.00 working.
