[net.micro.amiga] Reasons for delay in release of Portable User Interface Library

elwell@osu-eddie.UUCP (Clayton M. Elwell) (04/01/86)

Well, folks, due to the interaction of several factors, I haven't yet gotten
PL into a releasable form. Here's why:

1. I have been suffering from an acute lack of "free time." Since PL
doesn't put food on the table or pay for school, it gets pushed down
    the priority list sometimes.

2. I was using a hacked version of an uncommon TeX macro package to do the
docs. Due to popular demand and the desire to include illustrations, I
am redoing them in MacWrite 4.5. I will also post a Text-only version
    for Amiga & UNIX folks.

3. After reading descriptions of MacApp, MacExpress & the like, I have gotten
some good ideas about how to handle higher-level functions (like "open
up a window onto a bitmap & handle scrolling, etc. automatically). This
means some rewriting of the code, which leads to:

4. I ended up with a package that let you produce a prototype of how a
program would look extremely quickly, but made it difficult to do a
full-fledged program of any complexity. This is not a good thing.

In short, don't give up yet. It's running behgind, but it will end up a
lot more comprehensive and useful than I had originally intended.
