[net.micro.amiga] Notepad follow-up

From: Jerry Whitman <jwhitman@ALMSA-1.ARPA>

PRIMARY ADDRESSEE: ANDY FINKEL @ CBM

1. Sorry to clutter up the net with this, but my direct mail to Andy came
back with a mail failed note. If someone can look at the address and tell
me why it failed I would be much obliged. We seem to have a difficult time
getting mail out to interconnecting nets and even within ARPA for some hosts.

------- the FROM on the message from Andy read as follows:
Andy Finkel <cbmvax!andy%seismo.seismo.arpa@ALMSA-1.ARPA>
I mailed TO cbmvax!andy%seismo.seismo.arpa@ALMSA-1.ARPA with the result
of crunch-munch-gulp!!

************ THE FOLLOWING IS A RE-POST OF THE <LOST>? MESSAGE ************

TO: ANDY FINKEL (CBM-AMIGA)

Thanks for your response to the notepad bug. The following is provided in
hopes of giving you enough info to re-create the problem.

1. Using Kickstart V1.1 and Workbench V1.1. Recently added the 256K memory &
the second disk drive. Problem occurs equally well in old & new configuration.
2. One of the methods that works consistantly:
    a. Power up, load kickstart, load workbench
    b. select (double click the icon) Workbench
    c. select Utilities drawer icon
    d. select Notepad icon
    e. use sizing gadget to expand notepad window to full screen
    f. type 8 lower case a's and two spaces
    g. Using the Amiga Key function select "bold"
    h. type six more lower case a's
    i. backspace the cursor through the bold a's into the non-enhanced type
from line f, and viola, little boxes reign supreme.

3. We have reproduced the same problem by doing the above from a cold start or a warm start (re-boot). Also with 2f above with bold on and 2h non-emphasized.
Other conditions under which the problem exists: different type of emphasis
(italic, underline); different fonts and pitches; unchanged notepad window
size; half screen size notepad window. In fact we could not find an instance
where 2f thru 2i would not work as described here.

4. We did not try to induce the problem into an existing Notepad file.

I am not sure this will get through to you using your direct address
(ARPANET has strange rules and idiosynchroscies at this end)
PLEASE echo a received note. If I do not hear from you by Thursday PM
(4/3/86) I will re-post through the info-amiga@rutgers.

Hope this has been of some help to you in locating the problem.

Regards;

Jerry Whitman
