We have received the certificated here at CMU. The deal is that one must
purchase the system unit, monitor, and RAM upgrade. Other Amiga products
you buy at this time will be discounted (25%). I was disappointed with the
deal as I had already purchased the Sony KV1311CR. Perhaps you can resell
the 1080 to the dealer for a gift certificate or something.

At any rate, certificates, ot at least letters, have been sent to department
heads of universities.

I am trying to purchase an Amiga from a place in Santa Monica, Calif. called
Computer Showcase. I am going there because they seem to have the best prices
and are the closest. However, I cannot seem to get them to acknowledge the
Educational discounts. I *don't* want a free monitor, I will use a Sony,
thank you very much. I don't like the quality of them. (Not poorly made,
just don't give as pretty a picture). So I figure that I will just get one
at the 25% off price. They say that the Commodore representative is hard to
get in touch with.

Is there something that I can take to show them that there really is such
a sale going on?

Is there some one in particular that I could have them call in CA?

Thanks for the help.

The educational discount program starts at your school. The Computer
Science (or other interested) department requests certificates from
Commodore. This can be done directly from Commodore sales in Pennsylvania
(215)431-9100. My understanding is that the school can request as many
certificates as they wish -- no charge.

The school then fills out and distributes the certificates to faculty
and students they think should have them. You take your certificate to
an Amiga dealer and you are all set. The whole idea is to keep the
stores from having to say, "You're a student, but you're not."

The (current) educational discount program runs through June 30. It
provides a 25% discount for ALL Commmodore-label Amiga products (including
software). The minimum purchase to get the discount includes the CPU,
the memory expansion to 512K, and the Amiga monitor. [Sorry, you've
GOT to purchase the monitor to get this discount.] The 25% discount
comes off of list price, so, presumably, you will get identical pricing
from any Amiga dealer under this program.

Commodore does NOT REQUIRE it's Amiga dealers to participate in this or
any other promotional program. Given the current "free monitor" program
now under way, some Amiga dealers have choosen NOT to offer the
educational program as well. If that is the case with your dealer simply
try another dealer. Note that the discount under the two program is
virtually identical. The educational program is somewhat better if
you are going to buy lots of Commodore label product, since the discount
applies to all of that stuff.

If you have any trouble getting through to Commodore to order your
certificates, just send a letter on your department letter-head paper
to:

  Don Reisinger, Regional Marketing Manager
  Commodore-Amiga, Inc.
  983 University Av.
  Los Gatos, Ca. 95030

and we will see that it gets taken care of.
