From: lionel%tle.DEC@decwrl.DEC.COM (Steve Lionel) Caro.PA@Xerox.ARPA (Commodore Perry?) remarked on the surprising abilities of James Tiptree Jr. and Andre Norton in writing about strong female characters even though the authors are male. Well, this is probably only one of several Sagans (billions and billions) of replies on this point, but both Tiptree and Norton are women. Tiptree is really Alice Sheldon (recently appearing as Racoona Sheldon), and Norton is Alice Mary Norton. Andre Norton was my first "favorite" SF writer when I was a young teenager and I recall being amused when one of my instructors assumed that Norton was male. Most of Norton's books are aimed at the teenager market, but they hold a lot of interest for adults too. Many stories about time travel and psi powers, my favorite themes. Steve Lionel
