[net.micro.amiga] Comdex: Music for the Amiga

page@ulowell.UUCP (Bob Page) (05/02/86)

Golden Hawk Technology showed their MIDI interface ('MIDI Gold') at
Comdex this past week. It is a metal box, same color as the Amiga case
with an RS232 connector on one end and four (MIDI IN, MIDI OUT, MIDI OUT,
DRUM SYNC) 5-pin DIN connectors on the other. Sells for US $79.95,
comes with the RS-232 cable, apparently available now. They are at
427-3 Amherst St, Suite 389 / Nashua NH 03063.

They were sharing a booth with Activision, who was showing Music Studio.
Music Studio looks pretty nice! They had it hooked up to a CZ-101
(via MIDI Gold) and a pair of Bose mini-speakers. It is shipping now,
for $49.95 (or $39.95? I forget).

EA did not have DMCS at the show. Marble Madness looks GREAT, though.
Oh, this is about music. OK, on with the show...

Mimetics had their sound sampling box there. This sucker plugs into
the mouse/joystick port! I don't know how they get the sampling rate
they do, but it works, and the software is great. You can set up
looping and such, assign the keys (Amiga or MIDI) to different voices
or a scale. In effect, they had turned a DX-100 (MIDI was provided
though a hacked-up MIDIMAC box) into a multiple-split sampling keyboard!
The pitch bend was working too. Truly impressive. They were sampling
a CD and a mic (at different times, of course). The cost: $99.95.
I don't know when it will be available.

Applied Visions also had FutureSound, a sampling device for your
parallel port, at $175. I didn't see any software with it, except
to record and playback from a mic (you could play back at a different
speed). No plans for MIDI capability. Apparently available now.

As usual, let me say I don't work for any of the above named companies,
and won't make any money if you buy their products.
