[net.micro.amiga] matt's Shell program and Kermit

spencer@usc-oberon.UUCP (Randy Spencer) (05/05/86)

Well Matt, I got the shell and had absolutely no problems at all compiling

(of course, I learn the most when I have problems). I have really enjoyed

the shell. It took time to get used to (sort of an aquired taste), but I

am finally able to run my Amiga without falling back on the newcli command.

I will post any suggestions as soon as I get real used to shell.

For those of you who haven't gotten Kermit yet I downloaded it from Cu20b

and went about making an executable out of it. I had no luck with the

boot.c program that came with it. It compiled cleanly on my 4.2 vax and

ran, however I could not xmodem the executable, or the c program didn't

work for I got an error saying that file was not an object file. I than

tried to up load the encoded binary (the .boo file). It is around 140K

and I couldn't get it to successfully transfer over phone lines, so I

took the Amiga to school and did it at 2400 baud. I than tried to run

the boot.c on the Amiga but I found it faster (am I kidding?)) to run the

boot.bas to do the conversion. I now have a working Kermit. It is not a

full implementation, but it includes almost all the stuff that I ever use.

(no darn wildcards). It beats the heck out of working in xmodem. If there

is anyone who wants a copy I would be happy to make one for you if you send

me a blank disk and a return mailer (with postage), or just send me $10

and your address. I don't want to make any money, I just want to create

an interest in Kermit on the Amiga. If you are sending disks already you

might want to get copies of the Fish Disks (I have them up to #12, anybody

want to send me the rest? I always wanted to be a librarian.)

One last note of thanks to Eric Black for the discription of his experiences

building the 3rd drive. I was so close to buying another anyway. I am

impressed how close to the 5 1/4" drive article I posted it was, I will

set about it at once. --
