I have been given the go ahead to release the following info. There is a new database system soon to be released on many (yes, many) machines. It is written using very simple file access requirements at the DOS level, so that it can be ported to virtually any machine that can compile and run C. It consists of an English like applications language, that is truly self documenting, and is very neatly structured. A finished turnkey application will run on a machine with 128K of memory or more, which by today's standard, is hardly any memory at all! The driver module (the guts of it) is approximately 110K long and performs all the required run time functions. The application programmes are actually compiled, so the average size of an application would be about 4K (for a very sophisticated one). This means that a site running accounting, client records etc. can jump around the system in seconds. I've seen it and it is FAST! The code will be released as both a runtime database (you get all you need to write, compile and run applications), and as source code, where a license will apply, and will not cost the Earth. I suspect that other similar (but inferior) products will have to pick up their socks a bit once the release happens. It is currently in alpha testing, and should be ready (bullet proof - almost !) for release in the next few months, although it is running now. For any further inquiries about it, contact me and I will forward the queries on. Stephen Lamb sjl@ecs.oz

Not so long ago I posted an article about a 4GL Database that is soon to be released. I have had so many replies that the best way to fix this is for the really interested people to post a request in the mail for info, and they "WILL" get a reply. Since I don't have a lot of time to sit at a terminal, this seems to be the best solution. Thanks to those who replied. Please send further queries to -: John D. Gyffyn 758 Toorak Rd. Hawthorn, VIC Australia. There is approximately 20 pages of info in the overview, so it would be silly for me to sit here and type it all in.
