Hi gang,
Here's a quick list of bugs in 1.2 beta2 that I discovered shortly after
receipt, note I've only had a quick pass thru the release notes etc., and
this is my first exposure to 1.2:
1. When the workbench demo program 'spots' is opened up to full screen
on a 640x400 workbench, some of the ellipses turn out pretty wacko,
looks like a possible bug in the ellipse routine under certain
conditions. Watch it for a bit, they're not hard to spot.
2. If you remove an unformatted disk you just put in while the light
is still on, the system just hangs. 1.1 was better at recovering
here. This is a slightly worse problem on my system, as my drive
is a little tempermental and disks do not always seat right at first
insertion. They start to wobble, and I like to get the disk out of
there as soon as possible. 1.1 would just pop up a system requester
until I tried again and go on as if nothing happened. 1.2 seems to
hang forever with only the pointer still alive.
3. Online! seems to have a few problems. 'borderless' display has
a title bar and only 23 lines (though for some reason, vi on a Vax
seemed to work ok when I configured as ANSI). All terminal emulation
modes except TTY and ANSI seem to do weird stuff, act like the characters
have parity errors or something (most characters come out as a '4'
though a few come out normal)
4. Was playing around with bunch of stuff, sorry I can't remember the
exact conditions, but I got a guru-error-like message at the top of
the screen, indicating RAM: was full. Part of the message was cut
of by the top border line of the error box making it a bit hard to
read.
1.2 first impressions:
Seems faster. I like the new drag bar design, as it flickers a lot
less in hi-res interlace, wish the scroll bars and window borders would
follow suit. Very glad to see the Font Editor (though didn't there
used to be one back in version 28? this is the first time I saw one
that worked). Can't figure out how to close that cute new utility,
'Freemap' when I don't want it anymore. Beta2 docs are pretty good,
all on disk, but docs on some stuff seems to be missing. Reference
to subdirectory 'autodocs' with a 'readme' file in the beta1 notes,
no directory of that name on any of the disks. Except
for 'emacs' and 'update', the tools disk has no docs on anything
included, but since this is the 'Wack disk, use at your own risk'
I guess that is at least consistant with the previous releases.
Anybody know what 'drip' does? Source is included, but almost no
comments, hard to tell what it's supposed to do. 'ColorP' is a
little better, but haven't figured out what parameters it wants.
Parameters for 'setparallel' would be useful too. Haven't found
reference to them yet. Lotsa new stuff to explore, umpteen new
library calls. Plenty new fun things to try out.

The documentation format for the docs disk wasn't quite as bad as I
thought. What did your guys use for them thar notes? Every line that
begins on the left margin has the first two words scrunched together.
A bit of editing and 'arrange' commands cleaned thing up a bit. Of
course those dev notes weren't meant for general consumption.
Holy cow.... for the reading of the dev notes you people had your
hands full. How did anyone find all those bugs? Oh, they used it,
huh?
What's autodocs? Your 'two up' format for the Sun produced RKM Vol. 2
pages?
I might have been premature on the 'dir with disk error bug' seems
control-c means somthing now to the dir command. In combination with a
NOISYS (or whatever) flag this may be regular operation. More
investigations needed.
