*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** Hello Net world. Since this is my first posting, I would like to say how pleased I am with this group. I have been reading this group from the beginning and it has been a real resource. I noticed an interesting thing happen when I was trying to fix a trashed disk on my one drive Amiga. After loading Kickstart (V 1.1) and being presented with the request for the workbench disk, I gave it the unreadable disk. After receiving 'Error Validating Disk, Disk is Unreadable' and selecting cancel, receiving and cancelling 'Not a DOS Disk in Unit 0' eight times ...magic... an AmigaDos CLI opened. One more cancellation and the CLI was up and working (less the CLI commands). In this window, the directories S, L, C, FONTS, DEVS, LIBS and SYS are unassigned. It is interesting to note that the request for the workbench will not accept the kickstart disk nor a blank (unformatted) disk. I can understand the kickstart being rejected, but how could it differentiate between the blank disk and the unreadable disk? How useful is this? Well if you don't want SYS: assigned to anything, I think this is the only way to do it. If my short signature does not appear next then try to trace me from the path. It is nice to finally contribute instead of just reading. I think you will be seeing more of me. -- Brant Coghlan ...ihnp4!alberta!brant
