I have been trying to use the StarTerm public-domain terminal emulation program available on the Fish disks to talk to _videovax_ via a modem. StarTerm dials nicely, but does not seem to pass the Escape ($27) character to the screen driver. I have set up a modified ANSI termcap on _videovax_ following the information in the AmigaDOS reference manual (the new version with three volumes in one). What I get on the screen is the character sequences that follow the escape, with no evidence that the escape was recognized. If I put my 4025 (Tek terminal at work) into "snoopy" mode and invoke EMACS (on the VAX) while using the modified ANSI termcap, the Escape character is present, followed by the rest of the ANSI sequence. Is there a problem with StarTerm not passing the Escape character to the screen driver? Does StarTerm open some kind of custom window that does not perform ANSI terminal emulation? Is the source to StarTerm available so I can look into these questions? I am using V1.1 Kickstart and Workbench. Are there any problems in these that would prevent the Escape character from being recognized? Does the serial port have a problem that prevents the Escape character from being passed to the terminal emulation program? Or is my Amiga just broken? I would appreciate mail or posted response from anyone that has had experience with (successful) terminal emulation. The original Starterm 1.0 on the fish disks has been long outdated.. the new version (ver 3.0) exists on Compuserve and many bbs's across the country. (One in specific The Zeitgeist (516) 689-3105). The new version allows escapes to be passed but it still has trouble with a plain ole ansi termcap (I just got the one posted on the net.. I'll check it out shortly). The Vt100 emulator that was posted to mod sources works well using VI but it has trouble with the version of Memacs we have running on the 3B. I hope someone fixes it and adds an option to use more than 24 cols on the HIRES screen. Somewhere there has to be a PD terminal emulator that WORKS either in native ANSI or in emulaton mode (vt100)... please somebody fix the Vt100 emulator! San I disclaim everything...including my existance.
