[net.micro.amiga] SAS Kermit for the Amiga

spencer@usc-oberon.UUCP (Randy Spencer) (07/28/86)

Well, I just got the new Kermit running on the amiga. It is at CU20B
already in the K2: directory and it is named cki*.*. Pick up the
file ckiker.boo and the file ckiboo.bas and you are 35 minutes away
from having your own copy. The .bas program will decode the .boo file
into an executable.

This Kermit is FAST! Faster than any other Terminal emulator that I have
used on the Amiga, and I haven't over run it's input buffer running at
9600 baud yet! Of course, I use "more" alot. It will also do wildcard
file transfers, and it works fine. "Send :release_notes/*" works just
fine to send all the files in the release_notes subdirectory of the
v1.2 help disk. It will not send directories or access files in sub-
directories. I know that that is obvious, I am just glad that it is!

The other very important thing that this new kermit will do is drive the
amiga console.device, so it will do ansi terminal emulation. I planned
on sitting down an writing a termcap for the amiga, but it turned out
that there was one online at my main frame already:

a0|amiga|console.device for amiga:\
	:cl=\E[H\E[2J:sr=\EM:cm=\E[%i%d;%dH:nd=\E[C:up=\E[A:ce=\E[K:\
	:cd=\E[J:so=\E[7m:se=\E[m:ic=\E[@:dc=\E[P:cr=^M:do=^J:nl=^J:\
	:bl=^G:co#77:li#23:bs:am:xo:ho=\E[H:le=\E[D:md=\E[1m:mr=\E[7m:\
	:mb=\E[5m:me=\E[m:us=\E[4m:ue=\E[m:vb=^G:dl=\E[M:sf=\E[S:\
	:sr=\E[T:al=\E[L:

I am beginning to notice that when I use GNU Emacs it will often not
clear to the end of the line and it will not clear to the end of the
page, but that is fixed with a ^L. This termcap will run rn with
underlining and reversevideo, but when I run Unix Worms on it I get the
error (from SAS Kermit) "could not get character". So I will see if I
can learn about termcaps. If anyone out there has a different TC for
the Amiga console.device I would love to see it. I know this has become
net.micro.amiga.termcaps here but the are for Maxicomm or OnLine! and I
am not sure if those programs are using the console.device or not.

As I said before if you want a kermit disk, send me $6 or a post paid
3.5" disk and an address and I will get one off to you.
