[net.micro.amiga] Amiga sales query

chriso@3comvax.UUCP (Chris Olds) (07/30/86)

So how long has it been since CBM or Amiga release sales figures for the
Amiga? Keeping this information secret is either gutless or stupid. By
gutless, I mean that if the sales are weak, someone doesn't have the guts
to let us (3rd party developers) know what kind of a market we can expect.
By stupid I mean that if the sales are strong, I would expect the big boys
(i.e. Lotus, Microsoft, etc.) to jump on the bandwagon. All we know is
rumor.

Come on guys (at CBM or Amiga) let us in on the secret... we will not stop
supporting you if the sales are weak. As a matter of fact, there is
little to worry about - I have not met an Amiga owner who wasn't thrilled
with his machine. With that kind of loyalty and following, we won't let
the Amiga die. On the other hand, I sure would like to get ahold of some
real serious products that make my Amiga shine - like Microsoft word.

I guess we have to wait until the fiscal quarter ends to find out. Until
then, all we have is rumors:
1) Amiga is outselling Atari ST 2:1 since February ,
2) CBM will show a profit for a quarter (finally) ,
3) Amigas are selling at a rate of almost 10,000 per month.

If these things are true, publicize them so that more computer stores will
clamor to carry the product. Don't publicize the information and everyone
fears the worst (stock market investors, banks, consumers,
developers...).
