[net.micro.amiga] reorganization and the amiga groups

grr@cbmvax.cbm.UUCP (George Robbins) (08/13/86)

Rick Adams has just posted the backbone sites new newsgroup organization
edict. According to this plan, there will be two amiga releated news
groups: comp.sys.amiga and comp.sources.amiga.

In hia posting, both groups are identified as being moderated, however
when I checked with him, he said that this was an error, and only the
sources group was to be moderated.

From the list:

comp.sys.amiga Commodore Amiga computers -- info, uses, no programs.

comp.sources.amiga	Public Domain Software for the Amiga.	(Moderated)

Apparently, the new plan is to discourage having both a unmoderated and a
moderated group that cover the same subject, unless the moderated group is a
heavily edited digest.

This would mean that the present mod.amiga group would vanish, and both the
mod.amiga.sources. and mod.amiga.binaries groups would be combined into the
comp.sources.amiga group. Presumably the same people would continue to
moderate that group.

I suggest that the people using the group think this over and see if there are
any serious objections to the new organization. Please bear in mind the way
the groups are really being used.

If there is still some latent desire for the new comp.sys.amiga to be moderated
then a vote could be held, but not only had there better be a majority in favor
of such a change, but also the number of respnses had better be respectable
when compared to the number of people posting to the group.
