[net.sf-lovers] feminist sf/fantasy AND Gor flame

oleg@birtch.UUCP (Oleg Kiselev x268) (10/29/85)

Sorry, I missed the original article, so I use the quote from
article <294@inuxm.UUCP> arlan@inuxm.UUCP (A Andrews) :
>> From: Caro.PA@Xerox.ARPA
>>
>> Here are my favorites:
....
>> * Witch World, etc., by Andre Norton
>> Another male writer who espouses feminist views. His female characters
>> are also very well written.

Yes, true... Exept Andre Norton IS a woman! It was obvious from her writing
style and characters. I DON'T really like femenist/woman oriented wiriting
(DON'T FLAME ME! I have a right to be wrong!)

>> Others have suggested that John Norman's Gor series treat women in a
>> radically different way than most other authors, but I haven't had a
>> chance to read any of those books.

Yes, I'll agree with the above. John Norman IS radically different - SICK, that
is. The only way women are portrayed in Gor series is as slaves, will-less meat
and property to be used and sold by men. It seems OK to J. Norman to treat women
as inferior to men, lower species that are rightly in place as sex-slaves and
should never be anything else. Most his female characters ENJOY the slave status
and see nothing wrong in being treated like dirt. They LOVE it!
Sorry, B&D and domination are NOT my idea of fun. I managed to read 1/4 of one
of the Gor books and THAT WAS IT! I could not bear the book! If I want that kind
of entertainment, LA is full of sex/porn shops that sell books which don't
pretend being SF/F or literature.
