[net.micro.amiga] VIP Professional, some other stuff

Well, I put VIP Professional to the task, and here is how it performed.

A program written in BASIC for the Commodore PET about four years ago
churned through an equivalent amount of data and printed the reports
in about 6-1/2 hours. Professional took 24-1/2 hours on the Amiga to
do essentially the same thing. Certainly, Professional is more flexible
than anything I could write for the PET, but this is a little silly.
(the end result was a 220K spreadsheet - only possible with a RAM
expansion).

I want to write a C program to perform some of the more elementary
tasks, but cannot find a reference to the Lotus 1-2-3 file format.
Can anyone suggest a good source for this information? (please email)

Other stuff -

How about a fibre optic bus link from the Amiga to the expansion
chassis? This would permit a sizeable separation between the units
and ensure FCC approval. Of course, the multiplexers and whatnot
would have to be enclosed in a metal box that attaches to the expansion
connector. What? You say that it would be expensive? Well how expensive?
Any suggestions for the multiplexers etc.? GaAs? Can it be done?

I would like to mount my Amiga on the side of my desk, with the
disk drive at the top (ie rotate system box 90 degrees ccw).
I can see no objections to doing this, save for disk drive operation.
Anyone care to comment before I try it out (and possibly damage my
internal drive)? With this configuration, a right angle connector to
an expansion chassis would be a nice thing to have.

Has anyone gotten their hands on Dynamic CAD from Micro Illusions?
I have been seeing ads for it in both Amiga magazines for some time,
but nothing in the stores as yet.

How about the MIDI interface? Can anyone recommend a good, relatively
inexpensive electronic keyboard that will work with the Amiga MIDI?

MindWalker - I also think that this is the best Amiga game that I have
seen. I didn't find it easy to beat, but then I don't have the
hand-eye coordination necessary to become a video game champion.
Other game writers should follow MW's example - play in a pull down
screen, allow multitasking, no copy protection, great graphics and
sound. Some other games may present more of a challenge, but is any
other more suited to the Amiga environment?
