[net.micro.amiga] SONY KV-1311CR

dave@uwmcsd1.UUCP (Dave Rasmussen) (01/05/86)

I recently purchased a Sony KV1311 to use with my Amiga. I feel it works
a little better than the Amiga monitor. In interlace mode it does flicker,
but turning the intensity down seems to solve the problem for me. I paid
$469 for it, but have seen it sold for as high as $620.

I wired it up using the diagrams sent out by jef@lbl-rtsg.arpa, and they
seem to do the job.

A couple of questions: 1). Some people have asked me about a product
called 'Maximillion Term' (sp?). Anyone have any comments or info on
this? 2). I receieved a couple of letters from CBM the other day talking
about an 'Enhancement Kit'. Does this mean an updated kickstart, workbench,
and maybe basic/tutorial disk, or what? I'd like to know what exactly
I'm to get from the local retailer...

I just bought a Sony KV-1311CR monitor. This particular monitor
doubles as a complete color-tv. It has inputs for standard NTSC (e.g.
VCR), analog RGB, and digitial RGB. Connecting it to my Amiga via the
analog RGB inputs, I got an extremely sharp, clear, display. I think it
easily beats the Amiga Monitor. (However, the Amiga Monitor costs $150 less)

It's kindof nice to be able to use your monitor as a high quality
color TV with channel select and remote control, but if you don't care for
the TV part, there is another version of the monitor which is just a monitor.
I haven't seen it, but assume it's exactly the KV-1311CR minus the TV
circuits. Oh, by the way, the TV version is cable-ready as well.

The Display in interlace mode is the best I've seen for a normal-
speed phosphor display.

It cost me about $550 for the Sony. I could have gotten the
monitor-only version for $450.

Other features: Has a sleep-mode (TV version), which automatically
turns off the monitor an hour after the mode is activated.

-------------------------------------------------------

I would also like to take this oportunity to thank all the Commodore and
Amiga people for their personal support, and would like to note that
C-A DID get practical documentation out faster than Apple ever did for
the MAC when it was first introduced. It gives us a unique oportunity to
shape the future of the machine and to otherwise provide useful feedback
to the designers and programmers. For every feature I didn't like there
were a hundred that I did. I have not been able to find fault with a single
MAJOR property of the Amiga. Top-Notch all the way.

By the way, was the RAM: disk fixed in Beta 6?, I've only got Beta 4.

IMPORTANT BUG IMPORTANT BUG IMPORTANT BUG

I don't know if the old USENET bug address works now but
I will post a bug here to get it off my conscience.

So far I haven't seen anyone mention a significant bug in
what was once called the "developer's relase 1.2". This has
been alternately referred to as "beta 7" and "release" and
was also released with the Workbench disk version "33.39".

The bug is: the RAM: disk permanently loses memory every time
you do a Write(). This causes a slow dripping away of memory
(especially during development) which eventually forces a reboot.

Have you guys checked out the recoverable RAMdisk driver
that comes with the ADSG product?
