[net.micro.amiga] Amiga monitor substitutes ?

danny@convex.UUCP (10/10/86)

Me, I have a Sony KV1311CR which has an absolutely incredible display/TV.
I got it for $575 at 47th Street Photo New York so your best bet might be
to try to sell the 'free' Amiga monitor via classified as an 'Analog RBG'
monitor not mentioning the fact that the display is crappy. Odds are you'll
loose a little money in the bargain but you'd have the same trouble with
an Atari monitor...

Although I agree the 1080 is not the best monitor for the Amiga, I do not
find any problems at all in Dpaint with the gagets, I bet the monitor was
not in RGB mode, but in composite mode. That would explain why you had a
hard time with the gagets on Dpaint. Many dealers got systems without the
cable for RGB in early shipments, and it is entirely possible the dealer
at which you tried yours may have had one. And thus he may have gotten a
RCA jack and just used it in composite.

I would also agree with the previous response, you may want to consider
the Sony Monitor. It is much better. All in all though don't let the
monitor decide it for you since you can use far better ones with the
Amiga. With the ST you are currently stuck with the two they provide.
So choose the computer you want based on features that you really need.
If the Amiga has what you want then just consider upgrading to a better
monitor.
