[net.micro.amiga] Matt Dillon's Shell version 2.02

feb@cblpe.UUCP (Franco Barber) (10/28/86)

I moved shell version 2.02 to an Amiga w/ kermit and DBW's vt100
and the transfer seemed to work, but when I try to execute the shell
I get a 'insufficient memory error'. No guru. This is with 1.1, 512k,
one drive, maybe 40k in ram but with c: still assigned to Workbench:
(I type ram:dir when I need to). I type in df0:(or whatever)shell and
I get a message that there isn't enough memory. Can anyone point out what
I am (obviously) doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I'll try 2.02 with 1.1 tonight when I get home, but I'm pretty
sure it will work. Usually you get screwy errors like that when you have
a corrupted copy of the executable. Perhaps you downloaded the file using
7-bits instead of 8???? Will get back to you.

I tested 2.03 with 1.1 and it seemed to work fine. I think you
have got a messed up executable. The most common mistake people make
when downloading is not to use Image mode for Kermit, and to forget to
switch to 8-bit mode (though some kermit's will do this for you).

For instance, on a UNIX system you would want to 'stty pass8' on
the UNIX side and make sure your modem program is in 8-bit mode on the
Amiga side.
